Working Task 1

I Know You Believe You Understand

Starting with this quote try to explain what you believe its meaning is.

Don’t forget that the purpose of this task is to highlight how unclear communications can lead to confusing interpretations and to emphasize the need for clarity when communicating. There obviously is not a clear explanation for this statement. Apparently, this speaker was trying to say something about being misunderstood, but it is unclear what he or she was really trying to say. Don’t ignore the source of this quote and highlight the issues in a communication with a government agency or official to resolve a problem or to cut through government red tape.

“I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant!”

Quote from a U.S. government official
